The Dachstein

A new perspective from every finger

"Five Fingers" is the name of the main attraction on the Krippenstein mountain in Obertraun. It looms large over the valley like a hand and is visible from the entire surroundings. This fantastic viewpoint at nearly 2000 metres above sea level can be reached comfortably with the Dachstein Krippenstein cable railway of Obertraun.

Five Fingers Krippenstein Five Fingers

Each finger is accessible. 400 metres over the abyss. The first finger ends with a picture frame which enframes the view on Hallstatt. At the second finger there is a telescope through which you can look at the Dachstein mountains and the World Heritage region. The third finger is a spring board and the fourth one has a hole in the ground through which you can see Krippenbrunn. The most spectacular finger is, of course, the fifth finger, which is made of a glass plate and which the bravest visitors can access.

The visitors of the hiking region of Dachstein will be amazed by the sensational views that the nature of the World Heritage region offers along and at the end of the Pionierkreuz (pioneer cross) hiking trail.
Note: The 5fingers are illuminated until midnight and can, therefore, also be seen at night, even from a distance. The trail to the Pionierkreuz is fairly easy and can be walked by almost all visitors within 15 minutes.
