First of all…

The following hike is a high alpine hiking tour. Mountain experience, stamina, sure-footedness and good preparation are the best prerequisites for a successful and safe day trip. Please do not attempt it wearing sports shoes, normal street shoes or flip-flops! This ensures nothing will get in the way of an adventurous hike. Still have questions? The bride Karstlehrpath leads trough a real "lunarscape"

Starting at the summit station of the Dachstein-Krippenstein cable car we walk down the skislope to the skilift station . From there the Karstlehrpath leads us to the Krippenstein-Icecellar (little Cave). We take the steep track no. 661 which rises over the Margschierf crest. Shortly before we reach the Heilbronn Cross we turn right-pass by a hut. After the fork to Hirzkarsee we reach the waste Hirzkarhut. Finally we hike to the cable car station at Krippeneck. Short variant: from Margschierf back to the Krippenstein-Icecellar-then right at the steep track no. 662.

You should bear this in mind:

  • Carry your mobile phone on your body: Ready to hand!
  • Always keep your mobile phone fully charged.
  • Take a small power bank with you (additionally charged battery).
  • Inform hosts and friends about this tour in advance.
  • Also inform them of the exact route.

Tips: Hiking in spring

The days in the Salzkammergut are getting longer. The temperatures are finally getting warmer, more and more hikers are heading to the mountains. But be careful: Especially in spring, there are a few things to consider: There is often still a lot of snow on the mountains, so be careful when crossing snowfields. After winter, you are usually still a bit "rusty", so warm up accordingly in advance and plan your tour carefully. Let your host know the planned route. This can lead to quick help in an emergency. But there's more to consider:
